I’ve tried every note taking app possible and have come to the conclusion that the best one (for me) is… Apple Notes.
Yeah, sure it doesn’t have the kind of capture that makes Evernote so powerful. Or the database structures of Notion. Or the backlinking of Roam Research or Obsidian.
It is, however, really simple, built into pretty much every device I own, and syncs across all of them. And it treats the Apple Pencil as a first class citizen, which is pretty neat.
One of the missing features I really wanted was being able to quickly create and reference a daily note. For users of Roam Research or Obsidian, this should be a really familiar workflow. You open the app and the first thing you’re greeted with is a page dedicated to “today”.
Using Shortcuts with Notes, I can quickly replicate this feature like so:
After creating this shortcut, you can then export and “Add to Home Screen” and have instant access to your note of the day.
